LEED
awards up to Four Innovative Credits for projects that can demonstrate
exemplary performance meeting stated LEED requirements
|
| |
| |
Innovative
Credits can be earned by employing sustainable design strategies
not included in LEED. For instance, close collaboration with structural
engineers on a given project to develop innovative systems that
are more resource efficient or less energy intensive may earn a
project an additional point. |
| |
| |
*Exemplary
Performance of Materials and Resources: Precast concrete structures
can earn an additional point because of the increased amount of
overall recycled materials used in the manufacturing of the precast
building component. ( fly ash, aggregate, steel reinforcing, Thermo-mass
insulation). If the percentage of recycled material used is "more
than" double the 20% required for the first credit another
point can be earned. |

*Use
of massive wall systems( insulated /concrete wall systems) for
energy storage helps to lower the peak energy use of buildings and
shift power usage to off-peak times. THERMOMASS insulation is designed
to perform above all minimum standards, currently in place helping
designers effectively create buildings that not only perform will
above minimum standards.Use of the massive wall systems allows AC
and heating systems to operate during times where the temperature
difference at the exterior heat/cold exchanger is greater, thereby
providing a more efficient system and more cooling and heating capacity
during those periods. Out of 5 possible points in this section,
the THERMOMASS/concrete wall system can contribute to four of these. |
