Awarded Precast Cell Contract for
Berkshire County Jail & House of Correction in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Telford, Pennsylvania, April 5,1999- Oldcastle Precast Modular Group, a division of Oldcastle Precast, Inc., was awarded the contract to produce the 146 double precast concrete correctional cell modules for the two-tier, 292 cell medium security county jail in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The new 160,000 square foot facility is being designed by Equus Design Group of Belmont, Massachusetts and R.W. Granger & Sons, Inc. will handle the modular construction.

The building will consist of :

  • 5 Housing Pods
  • 1 Segregation Pod
  • 1 Jail Pod
  • 1 Female Pod
  • 1 Health Isolation Pod

The double cell modules were produced at the Oldcastle Precast Plant in Rehoboth, MA. The erection of the cell modules is being done by Hern & Co. of Mechanicsburg, PA. Erection will be complete by October 20, 1999. The anticipated completion of the facility is summer 2000. Carmen Massimiano is the Sheriff of the Berkshire County Jail and House of Corrections.

R.W. Granger & Sons, Inc., along with Oldcastle Precast Modular Group as the precast cell manufacturer, recently completed the $ 10,000 ,000 Bristol County Dormitory project in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and are currently working together on the new $ 30 Million medium security prison for the State of New Hampshire in Berlin, New Hampshire.
