Oldcastle's
Precast Cells used to meet short construction timetable
Telford, Pa, September 9, 2003- Scott County officials awarded the
construction contracts for the new Scott County Law Enforcement
Center in Shakopee, Minnesota. This new medium security 160-cell
facility is designed to aesthetically integrate the building's exterior
with its surrounding environment. Scott County officials recognized
that for " a project of this scale, modular precast construction
will save them money, and depending on the other conditions and availability
of masons, that can double or triple the savings" stated DLR
the Architect of Record for this project.
The one
building facility when complete will feature two (2) four-story high
housing units and one (1) two-story high consultation/special-services
unit. Between every two stories, precast concrete plenum units are
erected atop the mezzanine level in order to provide interstitial
space for the facility.
Oldcastle
Precast Modular Group was awarded the contract to design, engineer
and manufacture the 160 fully outfitted precast correctional cells.
The cells will be ship with all necessary furniture, electrical fixtures
finishing , connections, embeds, conduits and will include a rear
chase . Their sister facility, Oldcastle Precast of Ramsey, MN will
be producing the precast components.
The use
of modular construction was solicited seeing as modular precast construction
has been proven to permit for a shorter construction timetable and
is economical.
Adolfson
& Peterson Construction is the General Contractor for this project.
Ground
Breaking Ceremonies were held September 16th of 2003.
