DOWNINGTOWN School
Expansion to use Oldcastle's Precast Concrete Building Components
to Fast-track Project
January 2006-Telford,PA
/ Downingtown, PA : The Downingtown School District awarded contracts
for the renovation and expansion work at Shamona Creek Elementary
School. The project includes a new addition composed of five classrooms
utilizing precast concrete modular classroom construction which will
replace the current modular trailers. Additional parking and a new
instructional center and gymnasium are also included as part of the
project.
The new 5,500 square foot
precast concrete expansion will contain (5) five-900 square foot classrooms
with connector link to the existing school. The corridor is designed
to have three skylights, increasing lighting and openness.
Oldcastle Precast Modular
Group was awarded the contract to design, engineer, produce and erect
the fifteen (15) modular school components, with a painted exterior
finish, precast wall panels, and roof slabs that will create the new
classroom addition.
Downingtown school officials
had a need for a fast reaction construction method that would result
in a facility that has structural integrity and a long life span.
Oldcastle' precast building system provided that solution.
The school building system
is designed as a fast-track construction system which integrates a
series of pre-manufactured precast concrete building components with
the purpose of creating secure, high quality, durable classrooms and
open spaces.
The general contractor
for the project is Dolan Construction, Reading, PA and the Architect
of record is Highland Associates of Clarks Summit, PA.
