Precast Modular Group awarded precast contract for 25 classrooms in
Roselle, NJ
After months of
planning and design details, the New Jersey Roselle Board of Education
approved a $5.2-million contract that will allow for the construction
of permanent modular concrete classroom units at Grace Wilday and
Leonard V. Moore middle schools.
The Roselle Board
of Education committed to a plan that would result in a restructuring
of the district's schools. The plan involves constructing twenty-one
permanent modular classroom units at Grade Wilday Middle School and
four modular classroom units at Leonard V. Moore Middle School. The
idea behind the project is that it will give those schools more classroom
space to work with, which will mean smaller class sizes. School officials
believe those smaller classes will lead to better education and better
test scores for the students. Part of the master plan is to have enough
room to bring all of the district's kindergarten students back into
school buildings.
These modulars
are not portables or trailers. They are permanent structures that
will provide a safe, secure, and attractive educational environment
stated Ms. Darlene M. Roberto, Superintendent of Schools. The classrooms
will be constructed of 4 sided precast concrete building modules,
precast wall panels and corridor roof slabs. Oldcastle Precast Modular
Group, located in Telford, PA, will be manufacturing and erecting
the fifty-eight concrete modules and additional precast components
that will make up the classroom additions at both Grace Wilday &
the Leonard Moore Elementary schools. The precast concrete modules
will be outfitted with windows, electrical & communication conduit,
exterior
V-groove pattern exterior finish and have the interior and exterior
walls painted before shipping to the site.
Having full support
of the Roselle Board of Education, the contracts were signed on February
12th, and preliminary site work began the end of March. The projected
completion date for the Leonard V. Moore project is August 2004 and
for the Grace Wilday project, December 2004.
